Mehmet Esen is a graduate from University of Houston , where he received a BA in Marketing and Management as a double degree . After graduation , he launched his entrepreneur career in Houston , TX , where he began importing consumer goods sold to major corporations . After a few years of importing mostly plastic goods , he decided to design and develop polymer interlocking floor tiles in the USA . He and his partner established BlockTile as brand sold in major retail stores .

His experience in importing played a major part in the startup of his business . With the aid of US engineers , BlockTile designs DIY flooring products in Houston , Texas and still outsources and imports the tooling from Asia . These tools are imported so the manufacturing of the actual product can be made in the USA .
Mehmet ’ s vision has always been to develop and provide responsible garage floor solutions that are smart , attractive , and affordable . Manufacturing in the U . S . means that he oversees the quality of the products easily and reduce production time . The consumers enjoy the benefits of higher quality standards , faster shipping time , and more color options . Continuing to import the tooling allows for flexibility to test new products . It also allows a lower introductory price point as it reduces the development cost . These cost savings are past down to the consumer creating a win-win situation for BlockTile and its customers .
