The originator of the volleyball rules was William G . Morgan - a physical education teacher at Young Men ' s Christian Associaton ( YMCA ) in Holyoke , Massachusetts . On February 9 , 1895 , in the local gymnasium , there was a premiere show of the discipline he created , which was then called Minonette . 985 marked the beginning of today ' s volleyball , the history of which is to be found in the United States of America in Holyoke in the state of Massachiussets . The creator of this game was the director of YMCA , William Morgan . It was intended as a typical recreational lifestyle for all regardless of sex and age . The new game was called " Minonette " and Dr . Frank Wood and John Lyuck helped W . Morgan in the development of basic principles . in 1896 the rules of the game were written down in 10 paragraphs . Here are the most interesting of them :
• the size of the pitch : 25 x 50 feet ( 7.6 x 15.1 m ).
• grid height 6.5 feet ( 198 cm ).
• circumference of the ball 63.5 - 68.5 cm , weight : 340 grams .
• the point is scored only by the team that plays and if it won the ball it plays again , if the ball won the team accepting the service , it gets the right to serve without a point , ( there was no change of position ).
• the number of players of one team was unlimited , the squad could be mixed .
