INTELLIGENT GREEN TECHNOLOGY
From the grid to the cloud, we have the
kind of technology that creates a
triple-bottom line for people, the planet
and profits.
Buildings are among the most
inefficient infrastructure around us; most
buildings are unoccupied 50 per cent of
the time. Through control systems, it’s
possible to significantly reduce energy
consumption through automation. An
example of this is our headquarters in
Paris, Le Hive, which is equipped with
more than 3,000 sensors to capture data
and a network of 173 power metering
units (versus one in traditional buildings)
to measure energy consumption. The
campus is also equipped with a Building
Management System and Monitoring
& Control Systems. As a result, we
have drastically improved our energy
performance, dividing our expenses by
four, and we have realised an ROI in
under three years.
Cooling and climate management
is another example of critical green
technology that can be optimised for
smarter business management and
higher efficiency. Approximately 45 per
cent of the total datacentre operations
cost is related to energy consumption
(including system monitoring, power
equipment, cooling equipment and
electricity usage) and about six per
cent of this is specific to cooling,
according to an APC white paper on
Determining Total Cost of Ownership
for Data Center and Network Room
Infrastructure. It is, therefore, extremely

important that enterprises have the right
technologies to manage the datacentre
temperature. Schneider Electric offers
a comprehensive range of cooling
solutions, such as air-cooled modulating
chillers, new adiabatic chillers and a
new complete range of InRoom CW with
underfloor fans sessions.
Following the commodity price drop,
the region also requires cost efficient and
reliable power generation techniques
for its rising levels of industrial and
infrastructure activity.
To cater to this, we provide reliable
products in the renewables space, for
the solar power conversion chain and
photovoltaic systems. We contribute to
substations, power plants, commercial
and residential buildings with solutions
such as PV Box, Conext CL, Conext XW
inverter and charger solutions. We also
have commercial solar power systems for
centralised and decentralised grid-tie,
self-consumption, off-grid solar and
back-up power. Our off-grid systems are
cost-efficient and keep users independent
from external energy supplies.
Technologies created to address
sustainability help cities and
corporations manage the energy demand
in a more integrated and efficient way.
Through connected products, with
local and cloud control, and a portfolio
of applications, analytics and services
for better decision-making, Schneider
Electric is committed to digitisation,
decarbonisation and decentralisation; or
the 3Ds of the New Energy World.
In 2016, we created a holistic,
integrated software solution to action
this 3D approach called EcoStruxure.
Designed to enable better control,
visibility and efficiency across total
enterprise performance, it is open,
scalable and interoperable. It enables us
to deliver innovation at every level, across
connected products, edge control and
apps, analytics and services. ¢
