A DAY IN THE LIFE
GET TO KNOW...
On the lighter side of things, we ask the industry-
experts what makes them tick…
Niranj Sangal, Group CEO,
OMA Emirates Group
What would you describe as your most
memorable achievement?
I am a firm believer that technology plays a prominent role
in our day to day lives and I feel grateful for the years of
knowledge that I have been able to share with the people
around me. Not just from a professional point of view but
also with the people around me. It gives me pleasure when
I see these people apply the knowledge to be able to make
their lives and work much easier with technology.
What first made you think of a career in
technology?
I have valued the effectiveness of technology from a very young
age. The driving force for my entry into the domain was purely
to be able to continue my quest in promoting the cost effective
solutions that technology brings into our lives.
What style of management philosophy do you employ with
your current position?
I believe that one of the most important aspects of being a leader is to be able to value
the team you have and encourage them to give their best in their roles as business contributors irrespective of
who they are in the hierarchy. On the other hand, I also prefer to be honest with my colleagues and keep the
communication open. And most importantly I believe that it is crucial to lead by example.
What do you think will be the hot technology talking point of 2016?
Big Data is one of the hottest topics that has been gaining momentum in today’s world. More organisations are
investing in ways to help them collect, analyse and interpret data so as to be able to bring it to the forefront and
utilise it for business gain. Business Intelligence and analytics is also becoming critical to companies especially
in the healthcare, finance and insurance sectors as they have proven to be more mature in implementing these
technologies.
How do you deal with stress and unwind outside of the office?
One of my biggest passion is to be on the golf course. I have kept at the game over the last few years and enjoy
making the most of the wonderful courses in every country I visit on work as well as on personal holidays. In my
personal capacity as well as officially, I do my best to make every effort to encourage new players into the game
and rewarding those that are already playing the sport. This gives me a lot of pleasure and I manage to destress
on the pristine landscapes.
If you could go back and change one career decision, what would it be?
I would go back to teaching technology as I did very early in my life. And I would like to take up teaching for
charity as a part of my future plans.
