an you describe recent
ICT project initiatives
at Oman Air and how
they have better served as a
business purpose?
At Oman Air, we continuously strive to
align technology and business. Driving
technology as a strategic enabler and
focusing on some of the key aspects
to attain operational efficiency, we
have been successful in deploying
technology solutions in some of the
key and critical business areas involving
customer, crew, MRO and ground
handling.
Last year, we introduced an all-
encompassing mobile solution for our
customers. This award winning system
enables our customer to book their
flights on Oman Air, make changes to
their bookings, flight check-in along
with a host of other functions. Our
Sindbad Loyalty members can view and
retrieve their membership details and
make updates to their profile using this
mobile solution. We invested extensive
effort on the “ease of use” aspect of
this mobile solution. To provide our
customers with a more comprehensive
offering for their complete travel
requirements, we have recently
deployed a new web-based system for
them to book hotels, cars and holiday
packages.
In 2016, we enabled mobility solution
for our cockpit crew. The Electronic
Flight Bag system implemented on
Apple iPads is currently being effectively
used by all pilots of Oman Air. Over a
period of time and subject to regulatory
approvals, EFB’s will significantly reduce
paper based manuals, charts and
introduce template based reporting
in electronic formats. Performance
and take-off calculations for each
fleet type are also enabled on our
EFB application. The EFB system has
significantly improved operational
efficiency and have contributed to
achieving On Time Performance on a
more consistent basis which is one of
the key aspects that also drive customer
satisfaction.

With a rapid increase in our fleet
strength, it was imperative that our
Aircraft Engineering & Maintenance
business unit be fully equipped
with a state-of-the-art technology
solution to drive efficiency and ensure
quality of service. Earlier this year, we
implemented a fully integrated MRO
solution that has enabled the Oman Air
Engineering team to provide high-end
services to Oman Air as well as to their
other airline customers at a reduced
cost. With our engineering operation
moving to a new facility early next year,
this MRO technology solution will also
help in supporting robotic capabilities
in some of the key areas such as the
Engineering stores.
Oman Air Ground Handling Company
handles all Oman Air and other airlines
operating out of Muscat, Salalah and
other airports in Oman. It was identified
that absence of timely collaboration
and communication between different
teams was the key factor resulting
in delays and mishandlings. Earlier
