MC Middle East has announced
that the Civil Services Commission
(CSC) of Kuwait has selected
solutions from EMC’s Data Protection
and Availability Division to accelerate the
organisation’s IT transformation journey.
CSC has selected EMC Avamar and
EMC Data Domain to create an efficient
and reliable backup infrastructure that
provides cost-effective continuous data
protection and disaster recovery so as to
enable uninterrupted service to users.
Customer benefits
Improved performance: With EMC
Avamar, CSC has been able to
significantly drive backup and recovery
performance from hours to minutes.
Enhanced Trust: EMC Data Domain
enables new de-duplication capabilities to
improve storage utilisation and to provide
cost effective, continuous data protection
to meet compliance requirements.
Enhanced efficiency: The all-new
architecture allows CSC to cut back
operational overheads associated with
traditional tape based architecture and
drastically improve storage utilisation by
over 420%.
Simplified administration: The heightened
automation capabilities allow CSC
to drive resource productivity and
utilisation, creating a performance backed
foundation that provides protection and
availability of steadily growing volumes of
critical data and applications.
“With its mandate to service critical
information and applications for all
public entities across Kuwait, the

next generation backup and recovery
infrastructure that provided the
resiliency, scale and performance
needed to cope with steadily growing
volumes of data. After careful
consideration of the various objectives,
the entity has selected best in class
solutions from the EMC Data Protection
and Availability division to create
an end to end backup and recovery
environment that allows the team to
drive service levels, improve storage
utilisation and avail new efficiencies,”
says Habib Mahakian, Vice President,
Gulf and Pakistan at EMC Corporation.
Customer challenges
CSC and EMC together embarked on an
ambitious project aimed at completely
replacing traditional tape based
infrastructure with a complete end to
end backup and recovery solution that
provisioned the agility, efficiency and
de-duplication capabilities to support the
CSC’s objectives.
CSC selected EMC Avamar to create the
next generation backup infrastructure
that fuelled backup and recovery
performance through heightened
automation, improving storage utilisation
and performance resulting in significant
cost savings. EMC Data Domain Boost
allows CSC to avail of transparent load
balancing and new de-duplication
capabilities to increase performance of
critical applications. CSC came full circle
with the project with the deployment of
EMC RecoverPoint to enable continuous
data protection and to enable application
recovery at any point in time.
The solution allows CSC to improve
critical data retention policies,
designed to meet compliance
regulations and to expedite recovery
speeds for many applications and files
– reducing the recovery times from
months to days, from days to hours
and from hours to minutes.
Together with EMC, CSC has powered
a performance backed infrastructure
to support the entity’s critical role
in the overall government agenda.
The deployment provisions the scale,
management simplicity and efficiency
that CSC needs to successfully cope
with surging amounts of data and take
a step forward in its journey to extend
new Back-Up-As-A-Service capabilities,
to internal and external stakeholders
across numerous public entities in the
State of Kuwait.
“The Civil Services Commission is a
critical brick in the foundation of the
government’s agenda to transform
the performance and provision of
government services across the
nation. Together with EMC, we have
created the next generation backup
and recovery infrastructure that is
suited to our role and responsibilities,
the deployment saves us precious
operational time and helps in improving
the performance of critical applications
across remote locations and users. Most
importantly, the deployment allows our
teams to focus on innovation thanks to
the near real time recovery capabilities.
We truly believe that we have made
the right decision by choosing the EMC
backup and recovery platform and look
forward to extending this journey into
the future”, says Ahmed Al Abd AlJalil,
Undersecretary for IT at Civil Services
Commission, Kuwait.
