FEATURE : STORAGE
MOST OF THE TOP VENDORS ARE ALREADY SUPPORTING THE CHANNEL BY DEVELOPING AND EMBEDDING SDS ALONG WITH THEIR SOLUTION STACK , PROVIDING AGGRESSIVE COMMERCIALS FOR SDS OPPORTUNITIES , SUPPORTING ON SOLUTION DESIGN , DEPLOYMENT , MAINTENANCE AND TRAINING-SERVICES
RANJITH KAIPPADA Sales Director , StorIT Distribution comes to purchasing storage . It takes storage to a higher level : from a normal hardware commodity to a scalable , hardware independent , pay as per use , service level entity .
Software defined storage In recent years , enterprises have been facing an explosion of data , which is creating tremendous data storage challenges . To keep up with this demand , companies are looking for simple and less expensive storage solutions . Hence software-defined storage ( SDS ) comes into play where it delivers automated , policy-driven , application-aware storage solutions .
There is increased innovation in ‘ Software-defined networking ’, ‘ Software-defined Storage ’ and ‘ Software-defined data centres ’ with many Middle East Enterprises choosing to implement software-defined architectures for greater efficiency , flexibility and control . Businesses want to ensure a future-proof network that can be managed holistically and this can be achieved with a softwaredefined infrastructure . SDS focuses on improving the performance ,
reliability and manageability of the business ’ storage products . Hence more regional businesses are deploying SDS for features such as continuous availability , faster performance and higher efficiency . However , they will still need to deploy local SDS to ensure their sensitive or critical data is secure .
SDS has a huge potential in private cloud with storage and network provisioning , Media and entertainment where huge volumes of media workflow need to be managed , data analytics , e-commerce and live web service , research and development and high performance computing ( HPC ).
SDS is transforming the way organisations deal with their data management challenges . Organisations are increasingly seeing the benefits of SDS where it can significantly reduce costs and support today ’ s increasingly software-defined and hybrid data centre . SDS will see an increased uptake over the next two years due to the need to grow capacity due to large volumes of data and the pressure to cut IT budgets .
Most of the top vendors are already supporting the channel by developing and embedding SDS along with their solution stack , providing aggressive commercials for SDS opportunities , supporting on solution design , deployment , maintenance and trainingservices .
Open approach With cloud and virtualisation ruling the enterprise market , it is highly essential that infrastructure should be treated as a service not as a commodity . OpenStack is a free and open-source software cloud computing platform . It is primarily deployed as an infrastructure as a service ( IaaS ) solution . Open standard based systems like Open Compute Project ( OCP ) are highly welcomed since they provide lot of customisations to the end users without compromising on scalability , availability , technology and performance .
Leading the storage game All Flash arrays , software-defined storage and hyper-converged infrastructure are leading the enterprise storage market followed by backup and archiving solutions . www . intelligentcio . com INTELLIGENTCIO
