In addition , there were nearly 600 speakers , including industry leaders , analysts and top technologists from around the world all imparting first hand practical experience and insight into how to address many of the challenges we have to address is this fast moving and dynamic industry as we move forward . Like all the events we support the DCA was delighted to provide many of the chairs for these sessions and to open the event with the Keynote speech presented by Steve Norris , DCA President and Chairman of Virtus Data Centres .
Those who turned up thinking this was just a data centre event were pleasantly surprised to find that like the industry itself things have moved on and delegates could seamlessly move from the world of data centre Infrastructure right through to the world of cloud-based services without missing a step . If you planned your route there appeared to be absolutely everything you would need to build , develop or run your data centre and all the bits in-between .
Special thanks goes to 2bM who built a small energy convertor which attached to a bike and powered a massage chair for delegates and fellow exhibitors visiting the DCA stand . It was designed to provide a bit of fun and helped to raise money for Bike for Cancer at the same time , this is all part of a bigger charity drive coming up in September which see a DCA team doing the London to Brighton charity Bike race .

EURECA Public Sector Event in Dublin on the 11th May - The 4th EURECA workshop The public sector is moving to ever more digitisation and e-services to reduce costs under even tighter budgetary constraints . Amid growing concerns of increased energy consumption and the sustainability of IT and data centre facilities , over the past few years , many EU governments have started to push for more consolidation of public sector ICT services under various Cloud initiatives . In December 2015 , the Irish Government published an Advice Note : Considering Cloud Services in support of the Public Service ICT strategy .
This event brings together experts to share experiences and discuss various aspects relating to Cloud consolidation and sustainability of data centre products and services . The event is organised under the EURECA project , which is an EU Commission H2020 funded initiative designed to provide tailored solutions to help identify the cost saving opportunities whilst signposting the environmental impact of procurement choices .

The DCS awards are designed to reward the product designers , manufacturers , suppliers and providers operating in data centre arena . The Awards recognise the achievements of the vendors and their business partners alike and this year encompass a wider range of both facilities and information technology award categories designed to address all of the main areas of the datacentre market in Europe .

Having been in the IT Industry since the heady days of the ‘. com boom ’ and has been lucky enough to work for and with some great people and organisations on critical IT projects over the years .
