NEWS OMAN IoT key theme at COMEX 2016 Under the patronage of HE Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim Al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, the 26th edition of the IT, Telecom and Technology exhibition COMEX was inaugurated on April 12th in the presence of number of Excellences as well as executives from the private and public sector. The show featured 100 participants from Oman and other countries exhibiting technologies in the telecommunication and IT sector. Key participants were Omantel, GBM, Oreedoo, Awasr, Microsoft, Huawei, Oman Computer Services, Al Zubair Telecommunications, Lenevo, Kaspersky, Bahwan Mart, Panasonic, and Samsung in addition to many well-known companies in Oman such as MG Group, Telecom Oman and Oman Phone. The exhibition’s main theme this year was built around IoT and its current and future applications such as smart home, smart banking, digital education and e-tailing. These is presented through advanced displays and demonstrations by key exhibitors such as the major telecom operators in Oman including Omantel and Oreddoo as well as technology providers such as Microsoft and Huawei. Commenting on this year’s edition, Tarek Ali, General Manager of OITE, the organizers of COMEX said: COMEX’ novelty is very much related to the novelty of products and technologies on display. What exhibitors bring with them is definitely upgrading our expectations from what technologies can bring into our lives. With the entry of companies like Awasr and the agreements being done among the key stakeholders of the industry, we can foresee that life is changing for better in different aspects in the country. We can say that COMEX gives its visitors a look into the future to help them build new dreams and ambitions. Polish delegation visits Oman’s ITA The Information Technology Authority (ITA) of Oman received an official delegation from the Republic of Poland at the ITA premises in the Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM). The polish guests, represented by Magdalena Gaj, President of the Office of Electronic Communications, were welcomed by the CEO of ITA, Dr. Salim Sultan Al Ruzaiqi and briefed on the e.oman strategy. The delegation, then, visited Oman National CERT to know about the centre’s roles and responsibilities to enhance the information security levels and the efforts made to raise regional and international cooperation between the Sultanate and other countries in the field of information security and cyber security emergency response. The delegation also paid a visit to the National Digital Certification Centre to learn more about the ongoing Tam campaign for all citizens and residents urged to activate their ID and SIM cards in order to apply for government services. 12 INTELLIGENTCIO Towards the end of the visit, the guest and her accompanying delegation toured Sas Centre for Entrepreneurship; during which some of the incubated projects showcased their works. Throughout the visit, a number of topics related to the development of the IT sector and cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Poland, were exchanged. www.intelligentcio.com
