If the only time the CIO spends at the
Executive Committee is to report on
technical failures, delivery issues or the
annual IT budget increase then it’s no
surprise that the CIO is not always a
highlight on the agenda. Alternatively,
if technology can be interwoven with
business imperatives – even if the
message is not always positive – the level
of engagement and understanding will
improve tremendously.
As an example – when we wanted to
provide an update to the Exec Committee
on the success of the launch of the
Mobile Banking system we didn’t go
along simply to produce statistics on how
many transactions were booked through
the digital channels – we went along
with the retail branch business to show
the positive impact that we had on the
footfall and engagement in the branches
by moving so many transactions from
tellers to online.
In the same way, when we wanted to
ensure visibility on the deliveries with
the improvements in Cash Management
systems we went with the Transaction
Banking business to showcase specific
customer transactions/mandates that
had been won on the basis of the new
technology introduced.
