INTELLIGENT BRANDS // Green Technology THE PROJECTS MARK THE LATEST IN A FLURRY OF CLEAN ENERGY DEALS APPLE HAS COMPLETED IN THE PAST YEAR, INCLUDING AN $850M DEAL FOR A SOLAR FARM IN CALIFORNIA, ALSO AGREED IN FEBRUARY At a glance… New Rittal IT equipment cooling solution advantage of the “strong wind resources” available in both countries. Apple powers all of its data centres with 100% renewable energy, mostly solar power and wind, following a rapid overhaul of its environmental policies that has seen it invest heavily in clean energy projects and enhanced supply chain management efforts. The projects mark the latest in a flurry of clean energy deals Apple has completed in the past year, including an $850m deal for a solar farm in California, also agreed in February. “We believe that innovation is about leaving the world better than we found it, and that the time for tackling climate change is now,” said Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of environmental initiatives. “Our commitment to environmental responsibility is good for the planet, good for our business and good for the European economy.” As well as using green energy, Apple said the data centres will embrace a range of clean technologies and environmental improvements. The DX line is available in two models, as a Rack or In-line solution, and is ideal for small-to medium-sized data centres or computer rooms that need an efficient and cost-effective way to remove heat from IT equipment without the use of water or glycol. “Rittal has applied its design and technical expertise to create an innovative and highly efficient IT equipment heat removal solution,” said Glenn Wishnew, senior manager, Product Management. “Our new direct expansion refrigerant-based cooling systems is designed specifically to meet the equipment cooling challenges of the IT industry.” The Rittal Rack LCP DX delivers precision-based heat removal, as it puts the cooling only where needed to protect valuable IT equipment while minimising energy costs. Furthermore, the Rittal LCP DX solution is a complete unified solution that includes air-flow optimised enclosures with includes baffles and blanking panels. The LCP DX achieves maximum energy efficiency through its intelligent CMC III SNMP-based management system, which monitors heat conditions and enables fans to continually deliver the required cooling by means of heat exchangers and fans. www.intelligentcio.com
