TC has announced that a successful
call has been accomplished using a 5G
smartphone for the first time in the MENA
region and among the first globally, in co-
operation with its strategic partners. This
launch is the initial phase for operating the
service once 5G handsets are available in the
global markets.
T
he STC Group has formed a
partnership with Korea Telecom
(KT) to collaborate on new technology
areas. As a leading telecommunication
company in Korea, KT will co-operate
with STC Group, the largest Saudi Arabian
telecommunication company in the
Middle East, in business areas such as
fixed/mobile communication infrastructure
enhancement, Smart Cities, smart media
and research and development.
Both groups will generate and maximise
the synergy effect by combining KT’s
state-of-the-art ICT technologies such
as 5G network, GiGA Wire (High speed
Internet solution utilising copper cables),
GiGAeyes (Intelligent security solution)
and Virtual Reality.
The collaboration will also benefit from
STC’s business expertise and strong
influence in the MENA region.

The companies will continuously seek
other potential fields of co-operation and
strengthen their collaboration.
Especially regarding GiGA Wire, KT’s
innovative broadband solution, which
offers Internet speed of up to 1Gbps
with a copper cable without deploying a
separate optic cable.
It is regarded as an ideal solution
to enhance network speed without
damaging legacy buildings, thus KT and
the STC Group will closely work together
to develop GiGA Wire business.
Eng. Nasser Al Nasser, STC Group CEO,
said: “It will be a great opportunity for the
STC Group to collaborate and introduce
KT’s field proven solutions to Saudi Arabia.
I am hoping our successful co-operation
models could expand to STC’s foreign
subsidiaries and other MENA countries.”
Eng Nasser S Alnasser, STC Group CEO,
confirmed that STC is committed to
providing the latest innovative technologies
in alignment with its key role as the digital
enabler to achieve the objectives of Saudi
2030 vision, which should reflect positively
on the quality of services and solutions
provided by STC in health, education, mining
and energy sectors.
In May 2018, STC launched its first 5G
live network for the first time in the MENA
region. STC has also been leading 5G testing
activities since 2017.
Early this year, STC endorsed a ‘daring’
strategy of universal 5G deployment by
pursuing Kingdom-wide 5G coverage,
incorporating all large cities in the Kingdom,
assuring that it has successfully rolled out an
initial 5G network comprising 450 new sites
kingdom-wide.
A statement from the company said: “The
successful call on a new 5G handset paves
the way for our customers to enjoy many
new services and capabilities provided
by the new 5G network. STC will continue
to provide innovation and quality to its
valued customers once 5G devices become
available in the global markets.”
