EDITOR’S NOTE
W
elcome to the latest edition of
Intelligent CIO for the Middle
East. As we start a new year it’s
only natural to look back at the previous one
and look forward to the new one.
Many of us will no doubt consider what
technology trends we would like to see
emerging over the next 12 months.
From a personal point of view I believe
Voice Recognition will start to emerge more
strongly than ever as the technology sitting
behind it develops.
Like many journalists I long for the day
when I can use technology to transcribe an
interview. For many years this has been a
difficult nut to crack for even those with the
sharpest of brains.
The many barriers have been difficult to
overcome. We only have to think about
the problem of managing accents – not
just between different countries but also
different regions of the same country – to
appreciate how high the barriers are to
providing a wholly satisfying solution.
However, it appears real progress is being
made. This edition we look at how Avaya has
been successful in utilising Voice Recognition
to solve real customer problems.
The company has developed a state-of-the-
art translation tool. This means that users
could be taking a phone call from someone
www.intelligentcio.com
that speaks a different language and see
a translation of what they are saying, all in
real time.
The tool should prove to be ideal for
Government bodies that need to find a
convenient way to deal with people that
speak a foreign language. Turn to page 40 to
find out more.
This edition we look at two implementations
for the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department.
On page 55 we take a close look at how
application security and cloud expert F5
Networks has helped the department deliver
world-class services as the emirate continues
to grow.
the entire breadth of civil to criminal cases
and related data and the related services,
it approached SAS, a leader in business
analytics software and services
The department also wanted to enable
more informed decision-making using
analytics through high quality dashboards,
access to intelligent insights powered
by AI and Machine Learning based
algorithms, which analysed the quality
and consistency of its judgements, and
prepared customised, real-time reports for
the management and customers.
We have all the usual news and views from
around the region. Enjoy the read and have
a great 2019.
F5 Networks was enlisted to deliver a more
agile and efficient platform for applications
and application services, helping the
department adapt to and anticipate,
increasingly complex judicial challenges,
rapid population growth and exponential
online connectivity in the region.
Then on page 58 we examine how the
department has benefited from applying
AI-based analytics solutions from SAS
to create a judicial data platform that
easily identifies customers and cases,
and processes requests for insights and
information in a timely manner.
