NEWS Muscat Municipality participates in international ICT conference M uscat Municipality has taken part in an international conference held in Barcelona on the theme of utilising Information and Communications Technology and adopting Smart Cities. The conference attracted the participation of more than 50 cities around the world and aimed to discuss the role of Information and Communications Technology in the planning of Smart Cities with the intention of creating sustainable and rewarding living. The conference reviewed the best practices of global cities and the most prominent methods of pursuing innovative strategies and achieving successful implementation. Dr. Ibrahim bin Abdullah, Head of the Directorate General of Human Resources for Muscat Municipality, said that the conference provided a good chance for those planning to facilitate improved ways of living in the future with the assistance of technology. Those participating in the conference gave recommendations for the development of cities via the utilisation of technology and its possible role in helping job seekers find work. The conference also discussed the role the Internet of things has in enhancing the quality of life in Smart Cities. ///////////////// Omantel recognises the contribution of women O mantel, a leading provider of integrated telecommunications services in Oman, has recognised the contribution of notable women in technological fields. At the Al Mar’a Excellence Awards 2018 the company gave a special award to Jokha Al- Farsi, the President of the Ihsaan Association. “Women in Oman have huge potential that can push the development of the country forward,” said Arosemena. “At Omantel, we embrace these potentials and help women and men to work hand in hand to make significant achievements. “We are also proud that women in Omantel hold positions of various levels in engineering, technical and administrative fields, and they have been involved in settings the company’s strategies and making crucial decisions that had taken Omantel to where it stands today.” Ihsaan is a Muscat based association that looks after the welfare of elderly people including those residing in mountain top villages and others who are admitted at hospitals. The award is a recognition of Al-Farsi’s work in ‘Omantel Wal Awael’, a training and entertainment programme that familiarises the elderly with the latest means of communication, and trains them to use smart devices.
