cybersecurity
drill to secure
major events
PM emphasises
importance of cybersecurity
to financial sector
T
he Ministry of Transport and
Communications (MOTC) in Qatar
hosted a pre-conference in anticipation of
the Sixth National Cybersecurity Drill (Star 6)
which will be held next month.
The event entitled ‘Defending the Nation,
Securing Major Events’ featured expert
speakers from Gartner Research, Kaspersky,
F-secure and the MOTC.
“Over 500 people from 95 entities will
participate in the cybersecurity drill
‘Star 6’ event to be hosted by the MOTC
next month,” said Eng Khalid Sadiq Al
Hashmi Assistant Undersecretary for the
Cybersecurity Sector at MOTC.
“The aim of organising the event is to
protect the state’s digital assets and to unify
the efforts of all government entities.”
He emphasised that the topic of the event
was especially important considering Qatar
is hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
He stressed the importance of cybersecurity
during such events adding that cybersecurity
drills do not target operational sectors or
departments, but the departments that
support IT sectors.
Nora Al Abdullah, Training and Awareness
Section Head at MOTC, said that cyber
drills are an important part of the national
cybersecurity strategy that was issued in 2014.

he Prime minister of Qatar has
been promoting the importance of
cybersecurity in the country’s financial
sector. HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser
bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and
Minister of Interior, has inaugurated
the fifth annual Information Security
Conference for the financial sector.
The conference was held under the title
of ‘Securing Digital Assets’, which was
held at the Sheraton Grand Doha Resort
and Convention Hotel in Qatar.
Following the opening ceremony, the
Prime Minister toured the exhibition
organised on the sidelines of the
conference. He took a look at the
participating national and global
companies showcasing the latest
technologies in information security, the
information security solutions relating to

specific industrial sectors, as well as the
information infrastructure and the issue
of cybercrime itself.
The Prime Minister said on Twitter that
Qatar’s reliance on digital technology
to provide an international model
for sustainable development makes
e-Security a strategic choice for the
financial sector within the country.
The Financial Information Security
Conference is a platform for exchanging
experiences to create secure and stable
financial incubators.
At the start of the conference, H E Ali
Shareef Al Emadi, Minister of Finance,
called for an international unified
legislative framework for safe electronic
banking transactions to prevent
organised electronic crimes.
