IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS | LATEST INTELLIGENCE | REGIONAL IMPLEMENTATIONS EDITOR’S NOTE W elcome to the latest edition of Intelligent CIO magazine for the Middle East. Our cover story looks at how a major agricultural business has used information technology to improve its business processes and plan for further growth in the future. Arabian Farms has utilised Focus Softnet’s intelligent ERP solution Focus I to get real time information on its production and inventory. The solution has also enabled it to integrate information from all departments and analyse it for faster decision making. Dr Suheel Ahmed, CEO of Arabian Farms, tells us that while the farming industry is not considered tech-savvy, advancements in technology have meant the company can now integrate information from various departments so it can analyse it to use it as a basis for prompt decision making. “We now have real-time visibility of our stocks and can take decisions of increasing or decreasing supply to some customer sites based on this information,” he says. In this edition’s Industry Watch, we feature an interview with Sam Tayan, Managing Director of Sage Middle East. He tells us www.intelligentcio.com how the company has been enabling Digital Transformation in the region. He says businesses turn to Sage because they want to put software in place that allows them to manage finance and HR, as well as other functions. This enables them to see what’s going on, what’s profitable and what’s not. The software also offers insight into changes that need to be made. He says: “It’s all part of a transformation from a paper-based environment with a high degree of intervention to a fully transparent end-to-end process in terms of improvement and profitability.” In this issue we also look at how businesses are moving towards using Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs). We ask what the benefits are of using them and what CIOs should be looking for when assessing which provider to select. Industry experts from Help AG, Sophos, Gartner and eHosting DataFort give us their opinions. Stephan Berner, CEO, Help AG Middle East, says: “CIOs must have a clear picture of what their MSSP’s resources are doing and when.” But he adds: “The unfortunate reality of cybersecurity today is that no system can be 100% secure and security breaches are inevitable.” In Tech Talk we look at how enterprises can prevent themselves being attacked by botnets. Not having enough network protection may allow your organisation’s devices to be damaged by the next botnet cyberattack, says Harish Chib, Vice President, Middle East and Africa, Sophos. He warns enterprises need to take action to avoid becoming a victim of the next global botnet attack. We also have all the regular features and articles so enjoy the read!
