NEWS Data programme gets ministry accreditation Seatrade Maritime Middle East 2018 to highlight cybersecurity A ground-breaking educational programme focussing on the increasing importance of data has secured the official stamp of approval from a government ministry. The Masters of Science in Data Analytics programme, developed by Smart Dubai and the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), has secured official accreditation from the UAE Ministry of Education. The programme will ultimately drive further progress in terms of innovation and research, preparing generations of young and highly qualified data analysts. It is designed to cover the advanced aspects of data collection and analysis and highlight how applications are used in smart decision-making. His Excellency Younus Al Nasser, Assistant Director-General of Smart Dubai and CEO of the Dubai Data Establishment, said: “Data is the engine of innovation and entrepreneurship that elevates and upgrades the knowledge economy, and we, at Smart Dubai, always look forward to exploring advanced scientific instruments and embedding them into educational programmes and public services in Dubai. “This new programme covers all areas that can benefit from data collection and analysis, particularly when used for emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning, among others.” The programme was carefully developed to prepare the next generation of data analysts to contribute to transforming city experiences from understanding, managing and analysing Big Data. S eatrade Maritime Middle East, the maritime meeting place for the Middle East held biennially in Dubai, is set to tackle the issue of cybersecurity. To be held at the Dubai World Trade Centre from October 29 to 31, under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the Seatrade Maritime Middle East exhibition and conference will highlight the nature of known cyberthreats and their serious impact on the maritime community. Emma Howell, Global Head of Marketing, Seatrade Portfolio, said: “It is highly encouraging that stakeholders are now coming together to discuss the subject of cybersecurity in the maritime industry.
