Huawei announces New OpenLab in Cairo
to build ICT ecosystem

uawei has held a ceremony to launch the Cairo OpenLab during
the Cairo ICT 2017 conference. Huawei, together with industry
partners in North Africa, aims to build ICT ecosystem in North Africa
in response to digital transformation.
Cairo OpenLab represents the eighth OpenLab targeting enterprise
customers and is located in Egypt to serve and influence all of North
Africa. This OpenLab, situated in the smart village office of Cairo, has
been operating as a research and development facility for about a
year and now is officially open to customers and partners. Currently,
the OpenLab is approximately 400 square metres and is estimated to
expand to over 1,000 square metres in the next two years.
Cairo OpenLab focuses on the innovative areas of public safety,
smart grid, smart city, smart government and smart education.
The business operates through four functional centres: Partner
development centre, solution joint innovation centre, talent training
and certification centre and industry experience centre. Ni Zheng,
President of Huawei Enterprise Business Group, North Africa Region,
said: “We established the OpenLab in Cairo so that we can make full
use of the advantages of Egypt and serve all of North Africa. The
ICT industry market in Cairo is relatively mature and its marketing
capabilities influence surrounding countries.”

BT appoints Eyad Shihabi to lead operations
in Middle East and North Africa

T has announced the appointment of Eyad Shihabi as its
vice president for the Middle East and North Africa region.
An accomplished technology-sector leader, Shihabi will help
BT drive the digital transformation agenda in business and
public sectors across the region.

Speaking at a media roundtable in Dubai to introduce the
new regional manager, Kevin Taylor, president, Asia Pacific,
Middle East and Africa, BT, said: “I am delighted to welcome
Eyad to our regional leadership team to lead BT in this very
dynamic region. Eyad has a wealth of experience in the
region and beyond to help guide and steer our customers on
their digital transformation journeys.”
Eyad Shihabi joins BT from HPE, where he was responsible
for regional operations. A seasoned enterprise technology
professional, he has more than two decades of global
leadership across the industry.

but globally. With the great team in place, I look forward
to build further on that position and help existing and new
customers address their various needs ranging from global
