NEWS OAB and Thawani Technologies Sign Partnership Agreement ITA holds educational sessions to mark safety day T he Information Technology Authority (ITA) in Oman celebrated Safer Internet Day. Represented by OCERT an event was organised at Muscat Grand Mall consisting of several awareness and educational activities and sessions targeting parents, teachers and children from five to 18-years-old. The event was organised in partnership with a number of government and private entities including the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Social Development, with Insight as an event sponsor. The event started with a speech by OCERT followed by an awareness session delivered O man Arab Bank (OAB) and Thawani Technologies have entered into a partnership agreement. This will see OAB function as the banking partner of the Thawani platform, an innovative e-payment solution. 16 Additionally, OAB will also work closely with them on matters relating to risk management and combating financial fraud, alongside the execution of all transactions via Thawani’s new e-payment app. The signing ceremony saw the presence of Rashad Al Musafir, Acting CEO of OAB, and Majid bin Fayil Al Amri, Founder and CEO of Thawani. Al Musafir said: “OAB has previously invested extensively in building its e-payment gateway as part of its digital transformation plan. This gateway was successfully launched. The agreement was signed at a press conference held at the Grand Millennium, Muscat. It was stated that OAB will act as the banking consultant for Thawani to ensure that the smart platform products comply with instructions set by the Central Bank of Oman (CBO) and other market authorities. “The signing of this partnership agreement with Thawani, for the launch of this unique platform, the first of its kind in the Sultanate, will greatly benefit the retail and services sector. It will further facilitate easy payment processes while at the same time ensuring privacy, confidentiality, and security.” INTELLIGENTCIO by Sultan Bin Nasser Alamri from the Omani Association for Hearing Impaired. He gave tips with sign language on how to use information communication technology safely. An Omani IT specialist gave an awareness session on how to select reliable software providers online. The event also included a number of educational activities involving parents and children. A number of messages were shared through ITA’s Social media accounts under the hashtag #SID2018 to raise awareness on cybersecurity and promote the culture of proper use of the Internet among adults. The campaign also addressed Internet risks for children and the best ways to deal with them, as well as highlighting the legal aspects of using the Internet and social media channels specifically. www.intelligentcio.com
