Minister launches new e-commerce
platform in Qatar
Turkish bilateral relations and constructive
co-operation in the fields of post, transport,
ports, and aviation, whose foundations
were laid by the Emir HH Sheikh Tamim bin
Hamad al Thani and the Turkish President
Recep Erdogan, cannot be over-emphasised.
“This platform will further strengthen the
level of trade between the countries and
greatly enhance the fraternal relationship
between the two countries.”
He added that products ordered on the
e-commerce website will reach consumers
within seven days and said another 150
companies are being prepared to enter the
e-commerce arena, with another 5,000
lined-up to do the same in the future.

The platform, known as The Turkish Souq,
has been officially launched by Jassim Seif He said: “I’m delighted to launch this

of Qatar Post chairman and managing

of the Turkish Post, Kenan Bozgeyik, Turkish

IT aids team’s study into marine currents
A
research project in Qatar is using
technology to discover if marine
currents in the country’s seas can be used to
generate electricity.
A team from the Environmental Science
Center (ESC) will contribute to creating a
database that will be used by public and
private sectors institutions for fisheries and
aquaculture development.
well as the potential of finding freshwater
resources in the coastal marine areas by
using remote sensing technology.
Dr Hamad Al-Kuwari, ESC Director, said:
“ESC will continue to deliver on its vision
to be a leader in fundamental and applied
environmental research in the Gulf region.
The centre is keen to attract national
competencies and to provide them with the
opportunity to conduct research that meets
local environmental needs.”
The ESC team has conducted an exploration
trip on-board the research vessel Janan to
study the northwest marine area and Fasht
ad Dibal.
It consists of 22 researchers and experts in
biological, earth and environmental sciences.
They will conduct a one-year research
project to explore the biological diversity of
the ecosystem in the northwest marine area
of the country.
They will also study the possibility of using
marine currents for energy generation as
