Amazon Web Services is intending to launch a hub in Bahrain in 2019 demonstrating the
strength of interest in the Middle East Region. This will see an expansion of regional cloud
capacity through the launch of three Availability Zones. AWS has also announced it will launch
an AWS Edge Network Location in the UAE in the first quarter of 2018. “We see the region as
ripe for digital transformation,” said Khalid Al Rumaihi, chief executive of the Bahrain Economic
Development Board. “We wanted AWS to look at the Middle East now, not in three to four years.”

The construction of Gate Avenue at Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), the new
660,000 square feet urban retail and leisure development, is proceeding at full pace, with
much of the structural concrete work and concrete blockwork completed, on schedule for
its anticipated opening early in 2018. So far more than 3.5 million man-hours have been
dedicated to this development.
