A DAY IN THE LIFE GET TO KNOW... On the lighter side of things, we ask the industryexperts what makes them tick… Garreth Scott, Director of Sales, Credence Security What would you describe as your most memorable achievement? There is no single achievement that stands out as the most memorable but there are many projects that people said were impossible or many targets that were set that people thought we would not achieve. For me, success is so much sweeter when you achieve what people thought would not be possible and when you enjoy doing it! Having lived in the UAE for almost 15 years, I have seen many great projects go from vision to design to success and for me it has been great to be a part of it no matter how small my personal role has been in the greater picture. What first made you think of a career in technology? Back in 1996, I helped a friend who owned a small Networking Company and had just landed a large government contract with a very short delivery period. After a long weekend of pulling cable, building machines, installing and configuring servers, something told me there is money in this and I should switch my chosen career path. The rest as they say is history and I have never looked back. I am passionate about technology and always have been, my nickname is not “gadget” for nothing. I wake up every morning excited about what I do and that is what keeps me going. What style of management philosophy do you employ with your current position? My management philosophy is fluid. I focus on people and personal development and this guides most of my decisions as a manger. I want my team members to be successful in their careers and their lives and I always strive to position people for success. We work hard, play hard and deliver results. Results are key! What do you think will be the hot technology talking points of 2016? Mobile, cloud, endpoint visibility and convergence of technology. There is very much a trend of consolidation at the moment; large vendors acquiring smaller technologies and adding these niche technologies as part of their core product to give them the edge over competitors. I feel this will continue more than ever into 2016 across all platforms. Sharing of threat intelligence, creating threat intelligence platforms and networks moving away from the traditional model of proprietary solutions are some of the other trends I expect to see prominent in 2016. Mobility will be a huge driver again in 2016 as we see more and more technologies converge to mobile platforms. End point visibility is important within all organisations from a forensics, incident response and cyber security perspective. How do you deal with stress and unwind outside of the office? I enjoy scuba diving. I think Oman is one of the most picturesque parts of the world. Spending time with friends around a BBQ and blocking out the world while watching a good movie in one of the local movie houses. Lastly I enjoy traveling the world seeing new places, eating new food... I’m quiet the foodie! If you could go back and change one career decision, what would it be? There is nothing I would change from a career perspective. I have had an amazing time, working with great people, within great companies and achieving great results as a team! www.intelligentcio.com INTELLIGENTCIO 77
