A DAY IN THE LIFE

GET TO KNOW ...

On the lighter side of things , we ask the industryexperts what makes them tick …
Brett Youngman , Business Development Manager , MEA & APAC , CNet Training
What would you describe as your most memorable achievement ? It ’ s an on-going achievement really , regarding establishing CNet Training and our professional education programs in the region . I remember my very first trip to the region and being amazed by the vibrancy . Without a doubt , it ’ s an exciting place to do businesses and especially now with the lead up to Expo2020 . Today , I am also pleased to have built some strong relationships with influential data centre and network infrastructure professionals throughout the region . Plus , CNet Training is now a highly recognised and trusted brand in the region , as it is across the world , enhanced by the many industry awards we have gained . We are the only data centre education provider in the world that awards both official certification and qualifications for professional programs and the only one that continues to deliver regular programs throughout the region .
What first made you think of a career in technology ? It ’ s exciting … The world is moving so quickly and everything today revolves around technology . The sector will always continue to evolve and be advance with new emerging technology - I can ’ t think of a better sector to work in . My family has a business in technology too and they knew about CNet Training . When I heard about the role , I just had to apply and now , five years later , I am so pleased with my achievements to date and I know there is so much more we can achieve within the region .
What style of management philosophy do you employ with your current position ? My focus is building good relationships with clients and potential clients . It is essential that I can understand their individual learning objectives and therefore ensure learners attend the right program to fulfill their requirements and the requirements of the business . This approach allows individuals and businesses to gain maximum benefit from the new learning , achieve value for money and a return on investment .
What do you think will be the hot technology talking point of 2017 ? From feedback received the subject of data centre cooling is often overlooked . This is surprising considering the potential impact of cooling systems on operational efficiency and associated costs . Obviously , all data centres are different , however it is essential to utilise the right system to manage temperature and humidity to reduce condensation and potential damage . This also relates to energy efficiency within a data centre , there is a big focus on energy efficiency in general , however , focusing on efficiency with mission critical facilities can yield some great and on-going cost savings . So , when data centre costs come under the spotlight energy efficiency and the cooling are certainly aspects to review .
How do you deal with stress and unwind outside of the office ? I have a two-year-old son called Teddy who keeps me very busy and is so amusing . He certainly keeps my attention away from work . Spending time with family and friends is precious and we gather together as often as possible . Aside from that I enjoy playing and watching football whenever I can .
If you could go back and change one career decision , what would it be ? I studied a history degree at University , as it is a real passion for me . However , looking back I would have changed this to enter the workplace sooner ; my passion now is working in the region and in an exciting and fast moving industry .
