UTEL to make Middle
East debut at GITEX with
FTTH technologies
UK-based company, United Technologists Europe Limited
(UTEL), has announced it will be making its Middle East
debut at the Gulf International Technology Exhibition
(GITEX) 2015 in Dubai.
The leading research and development company will be
showcasing its innovative Fast Light technology and copper
test solutions at GITEX, taking place October 18-22 at
Dubai World Trade Centre.
With the second wave of 802.11ac, the speed
will rise to 1.7 Gbps in 80 MHz channels and
may be as high as 3.5 Gbps, if 160 MHz
channel support is introduced. With these
speeds, a single gigabit link will probably be no
longer sufficient.
As such, any new cable installation required
for the first-wave 802.11ac deployment, could
possibly still exist using a Category 6 system,
however many specifiers are now laying the
foundation for the second wave and beyond
by installing two Category 6 cables to each AP
location.

“With the FTTH market exploding in the Middle East and
the demand for new technologies rapidly increasing,
there has not been a better time to make our mark,” said
Frank Kaufhold, Managing Director of UTEL. “As Middle
East operators begin their transition from copper to fibre
networks, this is the best time to debut our innovative
technologies, especially Fast Light which is vital to move
forward initiatives like the Smart Home and Internet of
Things (IoT).”
Fast Light – an easy to use system that can test fibre cable
systems and report any issues that are affecting service – is
UTEL’s system for monitoring and managing Fibre Optic
cables. Fast Light uses UTEL’s revolutionary Advanced
Reflection Detection (ARD) technology, which sets a new
global benchmark for optical time-domain reflectometer
(OTDR) performance and has the potential to greatly
reduce the cost of fibre networks.
