INTELLIGENT BRANDS // Cabling At a glance… UTEL to make Middle East debut at GITEX with FTTH technologies UK-based company, United Technologists Europe Limited (UTEL), has announced it will be making its Middle East debut at the Gulf International Technology Exhibition (GITEX) 2015 in Dubai. The leading research and development company will be showcasing its innovative Fast Light technology and copper test solutions at GITEX, taking place October 18-22 at Dubai World Trade Centre. With the second wave of 802.11ac, the speed will rise to 1.7 Gbps in 80 MHz channels and may be as high as 3.5 Gbps, if 160 MHz channel support is introduced. With these speeds, a single gigabit link will probably be no longer sufficient. As such, any new cable installation required for the first-wave 802.11ac deployment, could possibly still exist using a Category 6 system, however many specifiers are now laying the foundation for the second wave and beyond by installing two Category 6 cables to each AP location. Fast Light uses UTEL’s revolutionary Advanced Reflection Detection (ARD) technology, which sets a new global benchmark for optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) performance and has the potential to greatly reduce the cost of fibre networks. www.intelligentcio.com
