NEWS Dubai event to demonstrate blockchain opportunities A n event held in Dubai will help decode the multibillion dollar opportunities in Blockchain. The Future Blockchain Summit 2018, hosted by the Smart Dubai Office at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) from May 2 to 3, is set to demonstrate how blockchain technology is set to transform the world. ICT talent programme in UAE doubles number of participating universities Leading figures in the ICT industry in the UAE are searching for future talent Brian Behlendorf, Executive Director of Hyperledger, Linux Foundation; Maja Vujinovic, Chief Innovation Officer, General Electric; and Chris Ballinger, CFO and Head of Mobility Services, Toyota Research Institute, are among 80 elite speakers. With the mandate to deliver a city powered by blockchain by 2020, Dubai welcomes global tech visionaries, government policy-makers, business leaders and pioneers to share their experiences and forge international alliances.” Smart Dubai Office is the government entity mandated to deliver the ambitious Dubai Blockchain Strategy in partnership with the Dubai Future Foundation. T he number of UAE universities participating in a programme to find future ICT talent has doubled. The current Seeds for the Future 2018 Programme is extending its reach to more than 10 leading universities across the UAE, expanding from five universities in the past year. The initiative aims to develop ICT talent among Emirati students who will become tomorrow’s leaders. The programme provides an educational challenge that offers university students a platform to present their ideas and turn them into viable projects. They will also receive mentoring from Huawei executives and a chance to travel to the company’s global headquarters in Shenzhen, China, to gain exposure to one of the world’s leading ICT solutions providers. ICT solutions provider Huawei is one of the organisations participating in the programme, along with the UAE Ministry of State for Higher Education, the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority, the ICT Fund, Dubai Investments and the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry. 8 INTELLIGENTCIO Over 150 projects from the UAE are expected to be presented at Seeds for the Future, each with the potential to be selected for incubation. “We are proud to continue our flagship global CSR programme in the UAE and offer students with outstanding abilities and bright ideas the opportunity to develop their skills and become tomorrow’s ICT leaders,” said David Wang, CEO of Huawei UAE. www.intelligentcio.com
