Mimecast
ITC and Aiuken
Cybersecurity sign alliance report shows
sharp rise in
impersonation
attacks
M
imecast Limited, a leading email and
data security company which operates
in KSA, has announced the results of its most
recent Email Security Risk Assessment (ESRA)
test results. The ESRA testing programme
measures the effectiveness of existing
email security systems in regular use by
tens-of-thousands of organisations globally.
The latest results highlight the continued
challenge of securing organisations from
malicious attachments and spam – but most
alarming was the number of malwareless
impersonation attacks incumbent email
security solutions are unable to stop.
I
ntegrated Telecom Company (ITC), a
Saudi based Telecom and ICT service
provider, and Aiuken Cybersecurity, a
cybersecurity solutions company based
in Madrid, have signed a partnership
agreement. This is to promote the offer
of managed security services and the
cybersecurity solutions portfolio from
ITC’s Security Operations Center’s (SOC).
The move follows the Saudi
government›s strategic initiative
of establishing the new ‘National
Cybersecurity Authority’. ITC is
positioning itself as a key player in
achieving the authority’s objectives
of protecting the government and
business organisation’s infrastructure
network and data. ITC also aims to assist
in the implementation of compliance

policies, security procedures and raising
awareness of cybersecurity in KSA. Most organisations are concerned about
malware being the main risk to their email
related security posture, but the report
reveals an increased risk of impersonation
attacks as compared to attacks leveraging
malware. Mimecast reported impersonation
attacks, which rely on duping recipients
into wiring the attacker money or highly
monetisable data, rose almost 50%
quarter over quarter. Emails with malware
attachments or dangerous files types,
combined, only increased about 15%.
Missed impersonation attacks were seen
to occur more than seven times as often as
missed email-borne malware.
As part of this agreement ITC leverages
the benefits of its complementary areas
of ICT expertise to monitor customers’
infrastructures 24/7 and to better prevent,
detect and respond to cyberattacks. These findings follow a recent PhishMe®
study that found approximately two thirds
of IT executives surveyed had dealt with
a security incident originating from a
deceptive email.
Aiuken Cybersecurity will bring to
the partnership its end-to-end global
expertise in cybersecurity to help prevent
cyberattacks on ITC customers in KSA.
Through this partnership ITC and Aiuken
have agreed to take ITC’s SOC to the
next level in line with the latest global
industry standards by deploying the most
advanced worldwide security tools and
highly qualified security experts.
