A flagship Dubai Internet of Things (IoT) strategy and Data Wealth initiative have been launched to award The launch was attended by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, and Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai. “Dubai’s push to build the future today has helped establish a digital infrastructure that is now a strategic national asset in the wake of the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” said Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid. “The Dubai Digital Certificates and the Dubai IoT Strategy mark the official launch of smart living in the emirate and we have directed all government institutions to co-operate and fully implement the initiatives by the year 2021.” Sheikh Mohammed said that Dubai Digital Certificates are the benchmark against which all smart services in Dubai should be evaluated to preserve Data Wealth, as he accepted the first certificate presented by Dr Aisha bint Butti bin Bishr, Director-General of the Smart Dubai Office. Technological breakthroughs praised at MBRSC Science Event The technological breakthroughs of the last 10 years have been highlighted at an inaugural MBRSC Science Event. HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, delivered a keynote speech at the inauguration of the event where he highlighted the different phases of development that human knowledge has gone through, focusing on the contribution of Arab and Islamic civilisations. Sheikh Abdullah also highlighted the scientific and technological breakthroughs in the decade, mainly in the information technology sector, which has paved the way for the creation of social media and artificial intelligence, and enhanced the development of virtual reality and 3D printing, among other new technological 6 INTELLIGENTCIO tools. He also said that the idea of the ‘spirit of the century’ put forward by many philosophers and thinkers simply means that every century has its own scientific, social, political, economic and cultural character. People who have been successful and influential are those that have understood the spirit of their century, while those who lived in the past have tried to impose it on the present and always failed.
