INTELLIGENT BRANDS // Enterprise Security powered by VMware unveils IoT management solution to help customers take control of IOT The increasing importance of the Internet of Things brings with it security concerns as well as technological advancements. VMware has launched an IOT management solution that places an emphasis on enterprise security. VMware Pulse IoT Centre provides control over the use of IOT, while incorporating strong security credentials. V Mware has launched a cloud- based management solution to enable information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) teams in the Middle East to have complete control of their IoT infrastructure. The first solution in a new family of VMware IoT offerings, VMware Pulse™ IoT Centre™ will help customers to more efficiently manage, operate, scale and protect their IoT projects from the edge to the cloud. The Middle East hosts a strong IoT market. Recent IDC data shows IoT spend in the Middle East and Africa will grow 20% year-on-year to reach USD 8 billion in 2017, with manufacturing, transport and utilities adopting IoT the fastest. “Thanks to the vision of governments across the region, Future Cities investment, and ICT infrastructure, the IOT is making rapid headway in the Middle East,” said Ahmed Auda, Managing Director, Middle East and North Africa, VMware. www.intelligentcio.com “For Middle East organisations, 2017 will be a critical year for those adopting IoT infrastructure to gain a competitive advantage, and enhance the citizen experience, from smart utilities to autonomous vehicles and connected factories.” Gartner estimates that through 2020, 90% of IoT projects will use some form of IoT gateway. Additionally, the worldwide installed base of IoT endpoints is expected to grow from 12.1 billion at the end of 2015 to more than 30 billion in 2020, according to IDC. As IoT becomes prevalent in the enterprises, organisations need a simplified approach to manage, monitor and secure their infrastructure and data. “As enterprises look to transform into digital businesses, this creates an opportunity for IT and OT teams to collaborate as they embrace IoT to improve operations within their business, while generating new forms of revenue,” said Mimi Spier, vice president, IoT, VMware. “We’re leveraging our expertise and proven success in the enterprise and applying it to IoT infrastructure and across all ‘things.’ “VMware Pulse IoT Centre will provide IT and OT teams visibility and control across their IoT use cases, while offering peace of mind with security capabilities throughout the IoT value chain.” Building new IoT solution based on proven enterprise products Customers investing in IoT face significant challenges as they move from Proof of Concept to production. They are seeking a simpler way to track, visualise, monitor and secure hundreds of thousands of different types of edge systems and connected devices across their IoT use cases. INTELLIGENTCIO 59
