A DAY IN THE LIFE

GET TO KNOW ...

On the lighter side of things , we ask the industryexperts what makes them tick …
Monzer Tohme , Regional Vice President , Epicor Software
What would you describe as your most memorable achievement ? I have had several milestones in my life – both personal and professional – that I am very proud of and pinpointing just one is almost impossible ! That being said , if I had to narrow it down , on the professional front , building loyal customer bases for each of the companies I have worked for is the achievement that stands out for me . On the personal front , I will say that raising three beautiful children with my wife of 17 years is the one I am most proud of .
What first made you think of a career in technology ? I mainly chose technology as it represented a new challenge and a big opportunity . Technology provides value to every aspect of our lives and to almost every business in the world . As such , it gives me the opportunity to continue to learn something new every day and interact with different people and businesses – something I find very invigorating .
What style of management philosophy do you employ with your current position ? In general , I like to lead by example rather than micro-manage . I also firmly believe that if you have the right team in place , involve them in strategy discussions and goal / objective setting and – most importantly – trust them to make good decisions , you will foster a strong work culture that will almost always translate into strong individual performance and organisational success .
What do you think will be the hot technology talking point in 2017 ? In my opinion , cloud and the Internet of Things ( IoT ) will be two of the key technology drivers in 2017 and beyond . More organisations will be open to adapting cloud offerings , starting with infrastructure management and moving all the way to running their critical business application in the cloud . In parallel , enterprises will start looking at how IoT can connect their business applications with key assets and drive online data that will help them make faster and smarter business decisions .
How do you deal with stress and unwind outside of the office ? When I leave the office , I make a point of focusing on my family and spending quality time with the kids , which never fails to help me relax and recharge my batteries ! I also find that playing racket sports is a nice stress-buster .
If you could go back and change one career decision , what would it be ? I don ’ t think I would change any career decision to be honest . The truth is , I have made mistakes along the way but then again , who doesn ’ t ? That being said , the one thing I have learned is that the mistakes are often less important than how you handle them . My philosophy is to learn from the mistakes and make sure that I do not repeat them .
