When a system is installed by an Excel Cabling Partner a 25
year warranty can be awarded. The Excel warranty provides
a 25 year product and applications assurance of compliance
with industry performance standards appropriate to the class
of cabling being installed. It covers copper, fibre, voice and
even the Environ range of racks.
Design and Installation
The main comms room is connected with all internal IDF’s
that are linked with Multimode OM3. All external IDF’s are
connected with Singlemode OS2 fibre optic cable.
The use of fibre gave some significant benefits in completing
the job. The fibre was deployed to link the racks together,
negating any issues with runs that would have been over length
for a traditional copper link. Fibre optics allow for large amounts
of bandwidth to be transmitted, so it was the ideal choice for
the backbone.
Fibre provides an extremely reliable backbone for data
transmission back to the core, whilst also being immune to
lots of interference, therefore with the cabling running close
and next to other services within the building, such as elevator
motors in risers, there are no issues with the data transfer.
All IT outlets are connected to the IDF’s through Category
6 cable. Excel Category 6 UTP cable is designed for optimal
support of High-Speed data protocols delivering 1 Gbps
performance to the workstation. Designed to be quick and easy
to install the cable requires no specialist installation tools and is
supplied in reelex packaging for fast, snag free installation. The
inclusion of a polyethylene cross filler ensures optimum cross
talk performance.

The Right Product
The Excel infrastructure solution is distributed by Mayflex.

One of the challenges faced during the project which took
place from 2012-2015 was the clients preference to install
CCTV cameras and wireless access points without the use of
faceplates and patch cords for aesthetical reasons, throughout
the hotel. This provided a challenge for Omnix, who worked
closely with the Mayflex UK based technical team to confirm
that the chosen solution would still meet all of the necessary
requirements to obtain a 25 year warranty. The solution
offered was to utilise RJ45 plugs, directly terminating the
horizontal Category 6 cable into them.
The Result
The hotel provides a luxurious destination for visitors and
offers all of the amenities that are expected in such an
establishment. Guests have access to wireless internet
facilities wherever they go in the hotel and can rest safe
knowing that a highly sophisticated IP CCTV system is in
operation throughout the resort, all running effectively
via the Excel infrastructure solution installed by Omnix.
