Gracing the cover this month is Johannes Hansen, Senior Director Application Development and User Experience for Lufthansa Technik. He explains how the company utilised a Red Hat open source solution to improve the customer and operation experience. Lufthansa Technik wanted to create a digital platform for the aviation industry – AVIATAR. The AVIATAR team can now use agile DevOps approaches, automation, internal and third- party integration and self-service capabilities to quickly iterate based on data and feedback. The airline is now able to provide an innovative digital platform that helps the world’s airlines optimise their operations. As technology evolves, more and more organisations are implementing technological solutions into the workplace, such as deploying a virtual workforce. A prime example of an organisation doing just this is the East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Trust (ESNEFT) which wanted to make laborious tasks more efficient in terms of cost and patient experience to ensure maximum productivity within the workplace. As we are now into a new year, we thought it would be a good time to gather some predictions from industry experts in regard to the technological landscape of 2019. It has been said that companies will leverage the benefits of multi-cloud architectures to drive their Digital Transformation journeys. Discussion around the cloud took pride of place and you can read more about this on page 42. Enabling Digital Transformation is a key function of modern technology and is the subject of discussion in this month’s ‘Country Focus’. We look at how the Nordic region is transforming into a major growth hub due to an increase in investment opportunities within the region. For this month’s ‘Editor’s Question’, we asked whether businesses and organisations should be doing more to strengthen password security. Industry experts were keen to share their views on the matter and Rupert Spiegelberg, CEO, IDnow; Rich Campagna, CMO at Bitglass; and Stephen Moore, Chief Security Strategist at Exabeam, offer some best practice advice to help businesses and organisations improve their password security.
