spoke with Hubert Da Costa,
VP EMEA at Cradlepoint, who
informed us of the ways CIOs
can improve.
T
oday’s CIO has a unique vantage point within the corporation
they serve. On the one hand, they are acting as a guide to the
CEO on the business implications of digital transformation
and how it can improve operational efficiencies, help capitalise on
new opportunities, and enable faster responses to changing market
conditions and competitive pressures. On the other hand, they are keenly
aware of the level of IT transformation needed to support expanded
public cloud workloads and applications, pervasive connectivity across
the enterprise and the security ramifications of network traffic shifting
from private intranets to the public Internet.
As business models shift towards digital, the role of the CIO is expected
to change as well. CIOs may face new tasks such as discovering and
advancing on technology trends, adjusting the expectations of the
business and laying out new organisation objectives, with growth of
the business at the forefront. Today’s CIOs are finding themselves
having responsibilities outside of the IT office walls and venturing into
innovation and the transformation of the business.
WAN pressure
The one thing these changes have in common is the massive pressure
they place on Wide Area Network (WAN) connectivity, performance
and uptime requirements. The traditional enterprise WAN, which
has evolved little over the past 20 years, was not built for the current
