EDITOR’S NOTE
W
elcome to the 15th issue of
Intelligent CIO Europe where
you’ll find an array of topics
covering business mobility, Machine
Learning and data centre residency in
Germany, for example.
This month’s cover story is an interview
with Experian’s Global CIO, Barry Libenson,
who discusses his management style, his
role as a CIO, what he believes are the
biggest cyberthreats facing Europe currently,
whether European businesses are doing
well to combat these threats, the customer
experience and the future of technology.
On page 63, Swansea University’s Head
of IT, Simon Thompson, provides us with
an insight into how an open source cloud
solution has offered many benefits for the
institution. The solution has allowed for
collaboration and improved data sharing
between university sites and groups around
the UK.
This month, we consider the ways business
mobility is enhancing workplace operations
and Leigh Moody, SOTI UK MD, discusses
its rapid rise in the current tech era. He
talks about the importance of businesses

adapting to mobile solutions and how this is
a necessity, rather than an option.
Germany is this issue’s ‘Country Focus’
and we explore the driving force behind
companies increasingly choosing to house
their data there. Germany is now a dominant
player in Europe for data centre residency
and Philip van der Wilt, SVP, GM EMEA,
ServiceNow, tells us why the company
decided to reap the benefits provided by the
country’s lead in this market.
Bitterlikh, who informs us of the journey
he took to land him in his current role, and
about how he likes to relax and unwind
outside of the office.
