EDITOR’S NOTE
W
elcome to the 14th issue of
Intelligent CIO Europe where you
can find discussions on topics
ranging from achieving successful Digital
Transformation, to the detrimental effects of
non-compliance of GDPR on enterprises such
as Google. This month we welcome building
materials company, LafargeHolcim, onto
the cover. The company deployed a Tenable
solution in order to obtain full vulnerability
analysis of its networks.
The building construction materials
company deployed Tenable’s ‘Tenable.
sc’ solution and the company has since
achieved a harmonised, automated global
vulnerability management service which
has allowed it to significantly reduce its
risk exposure. LafargeHolcim’s Head of IT
Security and Internal Control, Jose Maria
Labernia, elaborates on the subject on
page 58.
Enterprises must keep up with the pace
of technological growth to remain
relevant. Another company which is
focused on prioritising its IT infrastructure
is Nottingham Building Society. It
has deployed a Nexsan solution to
help significantly improve its storage
capability. Phillip Crocker, Distributed
Technology Platform Manager at The
www.intelligentcio.com
Nottingham, talked to us about the
solution implementation and how it has
provided the company with a number of
competitive advantages.
This month, we asked experts about
the importance of developing a flexible
and mobile workforce in today’s digital
environment. We heard from three
contributors who offered their advice:
Liam Butler, AVP at SumTotal, a Skillsoft
company; Huib Coopmans, Global
Product Marketing Manager, Unified
Communications and Collaboration,
Verizon; and Euan Davis, European Lead for
Cognizant’s Center for the Future of Work.
The feature includes a discussion around
enterprise gamification, collaboration
technologies such as video conferencing,
and developing a ‘no office’ culture.
The spotlight is on France for this month’s
‘Country Focus’ and we take a look at the
damaging effects of non-compliance to
GDPR on businesses - in this case, Google.
The French data regulator, CNIL, was
responsible for issuing a €50 million fine to
the tech giant and has remained actively
involved in ensuring punishment has
been upheld. We hear from a number of
technology representatives who offer their
opinions on the matter.
This month, we get down to the nitty gritty
of open source computing with Red Hat’s
Werner Knoblich, SVP and GM, EMEA. Open
source platforms and principles are driving
Digital Transformation initiatives in global
enterprise organisations and Knoblich
discusses the benefits it can bring to
businesses of today.
To round off this edition, we ‘Get To Know’
David Helfer, SVP of Sales for EMEA, F5
Networks, who tells us about his journey
which landed him in his current role, and
how he likes to relax and unwind outside of
the office.
