Technology report 2016. Its rank has risen this year from the previous
92 out of 148 global countries in 2014. Out of the four categories
of parametres, that influence the Network Readiness Index, namely
economic and business environment, business and ICT readiness,
ICT usage, and ICT economic and social impact, Kenya’s highest
strength is in its economic and social impact of using ICT.
In this category of parametres used to prepare the Network
Readiness Index, which is the economic and social impact of ICT,
Kenya’s rank is a commendable 50 out of 139 global countries.
It has respectable scores in the areas of the impact of ICT on
business models, impact of ICT on organisational models, impact
of ICT on access to basic services, ICT use to improve government
efficiency, and the e-participation index.

In the fourth category of parametres, namely ICT usage amongst
individuals, business and government, Kenya’s rank is at 84 out
of 139 global countries. In this category, Kenya scores high in
the area of individuals using Internet, use of social networks,
technology absorption by businesses, capacity for innovation,
ICT usage for B2B transactions, business to consumer Internet
use, workforce and staff ICT training, importance of ICT in
government of vision, and government success in ICT promotion.
Looking at other categories of parametres used to prepare the
country specific Network Readiness Index, for the economic and
business environment, Kenya is 81 out 139 global countries. In
the economic and business environment, Kenya has high scores
for the efficiency of its legal system, its laws relating to ICT, judicial
independence, intensity of local competition, availability of latest
technologies, availability of venture capital, quality of management
schools, government procurement of advanced technology.
In the third category of parametres, namely infrastructure,
affordability and skills readiness, Kenya ranks a lower 105 out
