INTELLIGENT BRANDS // CABLING INTELLIGENT BRANDS // CABLING Siemon launches new SkinnyPatch 6A shielded modular patch cords South Atlantic Inter Link subsea cable to connect Cameroon to Latin America O n June 27, Huawei Marine contracted with China Unicom and Camtel to construct the South Atlantic Inter Link (SAIL), which marks the official commencement of the SAIL implementation phase. Huawei Rotating CEO Guo Ping, CEO of China Unicom Lu Yimin, and Camtel General Manager David Nkote attended the signing ceremony. “Our new SkinnyPatch category 6A shielded modular patch cords provide the exceptional shielded cable performance that our customers have come to expect from Siemon.” S iemon, a leading global network infrastructure specialist, has announced the addition of fully shielded SkinnyPatch category 6A modular patch cords to its comprehensive line of high-performance copper cabling solutions in Africa. The new cords deliver superior category 6A shielded performance and feature a reduced diameter for improved pathway fill, airflow and increased flexibility in high density data centre environments. With a 28 AWG stranded copper construction that enables a smaller cable diameter of just 5.5mm, SkinnyPatch category 6A S/FTP modular patch cords offer a significantly tighter bend radius for easier cable routing and enhanced cable management to facilitate moves, adds and changes in tight spaces. The overall smaller diameter provides pathway 46 INTELLIGENTCIO savings in racks and cabinets whilst maximising airflow for improved equipment reliability. At the same time, the fully shielded (S/FTP) construction of these cords delivers superior transmission and enhanced alien crosstalk performance over unshielded (UTP) cords, for deployment in high density patching areas in 10 gigabit Ethernet (10GBASE-T) switch- to-server applications. “The use of 28 AWG patch cords has grown significantly in popularity due to concerns surrounding restricted airflow in today’s data centres and telecommunications spaces where high density patching areas are commonplace,” says Iyer Sivakumar, Sales Manager for Africa at Siemon. “Our new SkinnyPatch category 6A shielded modular patch cords provide the exceptional shielded cable performance that www.intelligentcio.com Backed by investment from China Unicom and Camtel, the SAIL system links Cameroon and Brazil, a length of 6,000km. Adopting Huawei Marine’s advanced 100G technology, the system has 4 fibre pairs and a design capacity of 32Tbit/s. SAIL is the first direct access cable that connects Africa and South America. When completed, the system will provide reliable, high-quality intercontinental telecommunications infrastructure to support growth in these two developing regions. Lu Yimin, CEO of China Unicom said: “China has strategic partnerships with Africa and South America. SAIL not only provides high-quality international telecommunication services to countries in these two continents, but also better serves Chinese companies to develop their business in these regions.” Camtel General Manager David Nkote said: “It is a great pleasure to partner with China Unicom and Huawei Marine on building the SAIL cable system. When it’s completed, it will provide new international connectivity, to facilitate bandwidth demand between Africa and South America and support the booming economies in the two continents.” The cable will connect Kribi in Cameroon with Fortaleza in Brazil. SAIL is due for service in H2 2018. ¡ our customers have come to expect from Siemon, whilst offering them a smaller diameter to improve airflow, accessibility, routing and space savings in these tighter spaces.” The new patch cords exceed ANSI/ TIA-568-C.2 and ISO/IEC 11801:2002 performance standards as confirmed by Intertek, an independent third-party test lab. SkinnyPatch category 6A plug technology features Siemon’s patented cross pair isolator for exceptional NEXT performance and innovative 360-degree crimp for excellent plug-to- cable strain relief. ¡ www.intelligentcio.com Huawei Rotating CEO Guo Ping (left), CEO of China Unicom Lu Yimin (middle), and Camtel General Manager David Nkote (right) INTELLIGENTCIO 47
