FEATURE: DATA CENTRE SOLUTIONS
ACS’s prefabricated data centre
ensure a flexible design, allowing
additional links to be easily added in the
future to expand with the end user’s
future connectivity requirements.
Baart added, “Siemon’s solutions are
particularly ideal for prefabricated
modular data centres for a number
of reasons. When we consider the
need for future-proofing for example,
Siemon’s fibre optic cabling solutions
are designed, tested and built with
high performance capabilities to cover
10Gb/s and beyond and are ideal for
next-generation backbone or fibre-
to-the-desk applications. For ACS, this
provides much needed reassurance that
they will be able to handle any future
growth and continue to support it with
existing infrastructure.
“Additionally, Siemon’s manufacturing
process ensures precise design and
rigorous third party testing of all
products before market release. For
prefabricated modular data centres
this guarantees rapid deployment and
ensures performance for end users.”

Prefabricated modular data centres

the prefabricated modular approach
is that ACS would be sure that all

elements of the data centre have been
tested and approved as working for
their specific environment.
Siemon cabling was installed in
Sweden prior to the eCentre’s delivery
to Angola, along with all other data
centre components, “Siemon’s
preconfiguration of the major part of
the cabling solution further supported
the prefabricated approach of eCentre,”
says Baart. “This process adds to the
advantages of eCentre that as much
as possible should be installed in the
factory prior to delivery. This maximises
quality, speed of delivery and makes
sure that the customer gets the best
possible data centre.”
Siemon’s solutions enable both
efficiency and future growth for ACS,
explains Baart, “Siemon’s cabling
solutions enabled a fast installation
process at Flexenclosure’s factory,
saving valuable time and money.
The XGLO fibre plug and play system,
with pre-terminated MTP-MTP
and MTP-LC optical fibre reels and
trunks, as well as the pre-terminated
Category 6A copper trunks allowed
for a reduced installation time by up
to 75% compared to traditional field
terminated connections.
“In addition, ‘plug and play’ allows
for a scalable solution. Due to the
system’s flexible design, additional links
can be added easily as the end user’s
connectivity needs expand in the future.
Deploying mixed media patch panels
would allow the end user to mix
copper outlets with fibre ports in the
same rack mount space. The panel
is therefore an ideal solution for the
data centre environment where space
is limited as the panel efficiently
maximises rack space utilisation and
helps maximise density.”
Carlos Carvalho, Chief Technology
Officer at ACS, is delighted with
the results, and concludes, “We
have built the most advanced
telecommunications facility in Angola
and it positions ACS to take an
undisputed leading position in the
delivery of mission critical voice and
data communications services to the
corporate market. I am very proud
of what ACS and Flexenclosure have
achieved together.” n
