TESSELLATIONS:

More Math than Art?

People have been fitting shapes together to make floors, walls and art for thousands of years. In doing so, they came to understand the mathematics behind patterns. As an art form, tessellations are rich in mathematics, particularly geometry! LET'S REVIEW!

Polygon - any two-dimensional shape formed with straight lines and is closed.

Regular polygon - a polygon whose sides are all the same length and whose

angles are all the same. Otherwise, it is an

Irregular Polygon.

Vertex - a point where two lines meet to form an angle

Interior angle - an angle inside a polygon at one of its vertices.

Exterior angle - an angle outside a polygon at one of its vertices.
