Have you Left it to the last minute to book a mid-winter break or romantic getaway?

Look no further, there is still plenty of time to start planning and packing for a great Aussie holiday this winter.

Whether it’s sun or snow you’re chasing, there are easy - and affordable - Australian destinations to suit everyone.

Many people think they need to leave Australia to escape the winter blues, but we have incredible tropical destinations in our own backyard, with Cairns, Rock Hampton, Broome and Darwin just to name a few!

For those that love the cold and are looking to embrace the winter chill for a sneaky city break, consider Canberra, where the city is putting on a winter festival with ice skating and European style markets.

Or, How about some Thredbo fun! If you love the snow but skiing and boarding aren’t your idea of fun, there are plenty of other activities to choose from.

This winter, Thredbo has expanded its Snow Play Park, near the base of Merritts Chairlift. This is the place to go if you’re keen to race your mates down a gentle slope on a toboggan or tube, or simply get accustomed to the feeling of the cool fresh snow. Then at night you can relax and get cosy by the fire place with a glass of wine or a frothy hot chocolate (or both!!)

If you’re after something a tad more adventurous, consider signing up for a snowshoe tour. Thredbo offers great access to Kosciuszko National Park back country, via Kosciuszko Express chair. You’ll feel a world away as you leave the buzz of the resort and soak in views of untouched slopes and powdery peaks while breathing in mountain air and getting exercise at the same time.

Recent Wotif.com research found more than a third of Aussies were aiming to escape winter with a second summer holiday, while one in 10 preferred to embrace the chilly weather with a snowy getaway.

Whichever camp you fall into, Wotif.com picks of Australia’s top winter destinations have something to suit.
