concepts, lyrics, ideas off, and this time I
was in a position where I had to do it
alone. I still bounce things off my kids,
who have a piece of their mama in them,”
he says.
As Sapp continues to win big on the
music charts, he is also hoping to win big
in the world of television. Sapp has being
eyeing his own reality show about his life
raising three teenagers while holding together a church and a charter school. According to Sapp, the show was shot last
year, and he has been pitching it to different networks, but so far there has been
no interest.
Sapp thinks he knows why it has not
been picked up yet. “It’s not the type of
show that has a whole lot of tension.
There’s not a lot of foolishness and debauchery,” he says. He was also advised
to add a love interest to the show to
make it more interesting. “I don’t believe
the church is ready for that. A man of God
dating publicly – some things should remain private,” says Sapp.
While his music and pending television show keeps him busy, Sapp is not too
busy to give back to his community. He
has been spreading awareness, along
with the American Stroke Association,
about strokes, the No. 3 killer of African-Americans. He also does work
with the American Heart Association, educating people on how to
live healthier lives. “Strokes and
heart disease are major in the black
community because of our diet, how
we eat and what we eat and how it’s
prepared. I’ve been blessed not to
have diabetes or high blood pressure. I am overweight, but I’m working on it,” he says.
With all the heartbreak that Marvin
Sapp has endured, he still believes
that God has a plan for his life, and
no matter what circumstances he
faces, he knows that in the end, he
wins.
Sapp’s new album I Win in stores now.
