Chapter 8
Hi everyone,
how kind and good-natured the Chinese
people are.
It’s been a fascinating week for me. I had
to prepare a PowerPoint Presentation
about my trip to England and present it in
my English class. The students were really
excited to learn about the beautiful city of
Bath, the mystical Stonehenge and
Shakespeare’s birthplace. I also brought
small gifts for everybody including some
fridge magnets from Oxford. It’s a shame
Russie was not allowed to come to school
with me because of security reasons.
But let me tell you what has happened to
my teacher this week. While she was on
the underground, she left her handbag
behind. Oh, poor Russie! It must have been
terrible for her, especially in a country
where not so many people speak English.
When Russie realised that her bag was
missing, she ran to the nearest police
station and almost in tears tried to explain
what had happened. As the policemen
were checking the details, a lady
approached the front desk and said she
had found a bag on the underground. As
soon as Russie heard this, she recognised
her possession and sighed in relief. She
was extremely grateful that this woman
had found her bag and brought it the
police station. When I met her later in the
evening, she could not stop talking about
It’s Saturday morning and Russie and I are
off to Hangzhou, a beautiful city about two
hours away by coach. We have decided to
escape from the hustle and bustle of the
city and spend a day at the West Lake,
which surrounds Hangzhou.
When we arrive at the lake, we are
stunned with its size and crystal clear
water. The gardens around are
spectacular and it is understandable why it
has been chosen as a UNESCO World
Heritage Site. The lake appears to have
inspired a lot of poets and painters
throughout Chinese history.
