In a world that is chock full of so many different ways of apparently taking care of ourselves, I decided
to have a close in look and see if there may be one that stood out for me personally. After thirty odd
minutes of them all in truth blending into one, I concluded that like the over-commercialisation of
Christmas, Easter and birthdays, from a business perspective, the countless wondrous ways available to
make you feel better about yourself are nothing more than yet another ´nice little earner.”
To my mind wellbeing is based in putting together a personal programme of ways you can self-help
that doesn’t include giving in to potions and pills, or copious amounts of alcohol, or indeed all the other
similarly related ways of supposedly raising your spirits.
Take the common cold for example, how many hundreds of ways are available to us to get it out of our
system? Because viruses and the like are able to replicate themselves inside our body, it is a sorry fact
that there is nothing that will cure the common cold other than time, and therefore during this waiting
period the smartest thing to do is indulge in self-help, personal wellbeing like lots of fluids and resting,
whilst this block of time passes.
Let’s now take a look at our physical and mental profile, because if we can apply wellbeing in these two
extremely important areas of our makeup, we are likely to have a positive impact on the way we feel.
The physical and mental sides of us can actually be looked at as one; the expression ´fit mind fit body´
probably originated from this source of knowledge. If you were to exercise regularly and eat junk food
that contradiction in terms would result in a poor state of wellbeing, and equally eating healthily and
not exercising would have a negative effect on your overall state of mind and body.
