I would like to now pay my personal visit to the ´Waving Hello´ installation in Oxford on June 25th last, an event that was set up by my two marvellous friends of 20 years and counting Arne Richards and Isabel Knowland, two ordinary everyday people who showed us all with their endless charitable endeavours how this ´fitting in´ thing truly works. For some inexplicable reason the expression ´we can’t choose our parents´ has drifted into my head, as well as, by way of a response, ´we can’t choose our country´ which to my mind is a more then worthy retort. I want to now take you ´live´ to these ramblings as just a few moments ago I heard my name being called by my landlady Maria and, following the sound, found her at my kitchen window with a bowl of ´Pelotas´ a hugely traditional and nutritional meal here in Spain. I am happy to say I have fitted in, not with everyone obviously, but sufficiently enough to move through each day with relative ease, confident that should I move again … I will, again, set about … fitting in. By the way I gave my landlady’s ´Pelotas´ 11 out of 10! Peter Taylor 5
