“Inspirational English” talks to Kaitlin Murray
from Kids Unite 4 Hope
What inspired you to set up the
charity “Kids Unite 4 Hope”?
My siblings and I were inspired to start
the charity after volunteering with Syri-
an refugees in Bodrum, Turkey in
2015. When we first arrived in Turkey
we immediately saw the reality of the
refugee crisis first hand and were in-
spired to make a difference. We decid-
ed to try and raise some money from
friends and family to buy food, water,
supplies as well as new clothes and
toys for the kids. Quickly we were able
to raise a lot of money and help many
families that were living on the streets
in horrible conditions. Not only did we
help many people, but we became
close friends with them and got to
know them for who they are as people.
After these life-changing experiences,
we wanted to make a bigger impact in
the world and so that is how we started
the charity.
The media tells us a lot about the
refugee camps, however, in your
opinion, what is it that stays hid-
den from the cameras that people
should be aware of?
I think the most important thing that is
hidden from cameras is what the refu-
gees are really like as people. The me-
dia many times shows the faces of the
refugees along with sad stories, but
they do not show the real personalities,
dreams, and characters behind the fac-
es. During all of our experiences, we
realized how warm, welcoming, and
friendly the people from Syria are.
Kids Unite 4 Hope is a
charity founded by three
siblings who love travelling
around the world and
making friends. While being
in Turkey a couple of years
ago Kaitlin(17),
Cassidy(15) and Trevor(8)
discovered their passion for
volunteering. Deeply
touched by the Syrian
refugees' personal stories
the three young people
decided to find a way to
support these kids and their
families.
Since then the three
volunteers have helped
many children in Greece,
Egypt, Italy, Jordan, the
USA and Morocco. They
want to inspire other young
people to help them make
the world a better place.
