This month Inspirational English asked: Clare Gleddhill What makes me feel hopeful is the everyday kindness of strangers. Yesterday someone went out of his way to let me know I was in the wrong half of the train, which saved me hours! Mark Bartholomew I am generally a sceptical man. However, education, in the widest sense of that word, is the exception to the rule. I believe that it enriches lives: it entertains; it makes us more cultured; it gives us better career opportunities and, most importantly, it teaches us to value views that differ from our own. In other words, it teaches tolerance and these days, just as much as in the past, that is what we need. Lavern Llanto Basinillo I am hopeful about the future because I believe the future is in our hands. Life is what we make it in a sense that we have given the freedom of choice even the very beginning of our lives. Our choice today will affect our tomorrow and tomorrow is our future. Amos Nyoh It is such a difficult task to tell some 'don't worry, be happy,' - to a student whose siblings are all either underemployed or unemployed, to a lad/lass who's lost their parents and siblings at war, to someone who seemed to have inherited poverty in the midst of plenty, and can’t afford a single meal a day, etc. In the midst of deprivation, I still believe that there is always a silver lining in every cloud and that my present situation doesn't determine my future. To be hopeful is to be optimistic and a clinical and awe-inspiring figure that keeps me hopeful is Abraham Lincoln who never gave up in his political career. More importantly, the belief in a supernatural that guides my thoughts, actions and words and intervenes at the appointed time, not when I want.
