How has life changed for you since launching your first solo album ?
Now , with the release of Black Moonlight , I ’ ve ventured into a new mode of expression , creating music videos for each song on my album . It ’ s been so much fun because the vintage filmvisuals encompass the many things that I love into one enterprise : conceptual thinking , creative direction , composing and designing .
I want people to hear the music , so I have to market myself and put myself out there , even though I prefer to be private and hide in the background . For example , with the album cover that I designed , I went a little ‘ diva ’ on the photography , although I consider myself far from a diva .
The music business is vastly changing and I need think outside of the box . There is so much to do , it ’ s a bit overwhelming at times , but I ’ m thrilled with the outcome of the album and all the rave reviews I ’ ve received .
What is it about Black Moonlight that listeners find so alluring ?
The album ’ s songs have stood the test of time . Many of these songwriters and performers pioneered much of the music that is heard today . Many of them have been overlooked , but Black Moonlight is an opportunity to bring them to light .
To me , these songs sound just as good now as they did then — classic and timeless .
