to keep them as moist as possible,” says Jason. Better
still, it might be that every time you come into Smallcakes you are greeted with a smile and a friendly hello. Both Jason and Jennifer work almost every day,
excluding the days that Jennifer is out of town on her
job as a flight attendant. Almost every employee of
the Oxford store is family, a blessing that Jason and
Jennifer are truly grateful for. “As long as they [their
family] are willing to be involved, we are going to let
them!” Jason tells me.
When asked if they would consider their move and
business venture a success, both Jason and Jennifer
will tell you that the achievements of their store have
gone well above what they ever imagined. Within
the first week of opening they had already booked
several weddings and birthday parties in addition
to the daily sales. “Our numbers are doubling, even
tripling, each week since we’ve been here. Roughly
75% of our customer base is still “first-timers”, so that
in itself speaks volumes about how the word is get-

ting out into the community,” Jennifer tells me.
In addition to their business triumphs, the Greens
have seen this time as a great one of personal and
family growth as well. “I was scared to death to do
this,” Jason admits. “That first initial step was the
hardest. Jennifer and I are total opposites, but we
work well together as a team with her keeping me on
track and on schedule with everything we are doing.”
Jason also brags on their son Hayden, who he says
has fit in “seamlessly” into the Oxford school system
and way of life.
Smallcakes Cupcakery has proven to be a true taste
bud pleaser among its growing clientele. The Greens
and their delicious treats make Smallcakes truly the
“sweet spot” of Oxford. Jason, Jennifer, Hayden, and
the rest of the Green family are well on their way to
