EDUCATION

Roedean

THE TOP GIRLS ’ SCHOOL IN SUSSEX AND SECOND OF ALL SCHOOLS IN THE AREA

A ROEDEAN EDUCATION IS A UNIQUE AND WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE , which combines academic excellence while providing girls with the space to grow up at their own pace and realise their full potential ; they thrive in this environment , happy and confident in their abilities .
The Department for Education ’ s new A Level league tables , published in the The Telegraph in January 2017 , rank Roedean as the highest performing girls ’ school in East and West Sussex , and second of all schools in the area . 51.9 % of Roedean girls last year achieved A Level grades of AAB or higher in at least two facilitating subjects – success in facilitating subjects is what is required by the highest ranked UK universities , such as those in the Russell Group .
Roedean celebrated both its best ever A Level ( 62 % A * -A ) and GCSE ( 45 % A *) results last summer , and this came hot on the heels of an outstanding ISI Inspection report in May 2016 , which judged the school to be excellent in every area , highlighting its remarkable strengths .
As an academic school , Roedean aims to inspire curiosity and a love of learning in all its girls without losing the enjoyment and delight of an all round education . Girls are given the freedom to develop their talents and passions , whatever they are – the school ’ s holistic vision of education also places a very high value on all the experiences that happen beyond the classroom , in sport , art , drama , music , and dance .
There are two sporting national champions at the school , in athletics and street dance , and one world champion in karate ; two students achieved RAD Advanced Level 2 in ballet in the summer ; many girls are working at post-grade 8 standard on a variety of instruments , and each year girls win places to study at the highly respected Central St Martin ’ s art school . At Roedean , co-curricular activities complement academic achievement and they make up an essential part of life at the school . It is precisely this rounded education that produces independent and creative young women who will make their mark in the world .
Founded in 1885 , Roedean combines the tradition and heritage of a school for girls with dynamic teaching and exceptional accommodation and facilities . These include the a farm , opened in September , with chickens and sheep , a floodlit all-weather pitch on the school site in the near future , and the recent impressive £ 500,000 refurbishment of the sixth form facilities , which is just the first phase of the development of the Sixth Form Centre . Having grown by 70 students this academic year , Roedean now numbers 500 girls , of whom 90 % in Key Stage 3 are UK and local , and the school is expected to grow further next year . The mix of local , London , and international girls from over 30 countries gives the school a special and dynamic atmosphere .
Roedean is one of the UK ’ s leading girls ’ schools – the girls play sport with the sea ’ s blue behind them and the green of the South Downs in front of them , the maths and humanities classrooms have perhaps the best view of any school in the country , and which other boarding houses have been likened to a boutique hotel ? Roedean is simply unique .
