ICONIC CITIES OF THE WORLD CAPTURED ON CANVAS
An exhibition from critically acclaimed artist, Paul Kenton will be launching
at a Brighton gallery this month.
Castle Fine Art, based on Brighton’s Nile Street, will feature a range of his
new works, alongside signed limited editions and rare pieces from previous
collections from Saturday November 19th – Sunday December 4th.
Paul has become renowned for his striking cityscapes, which are inspired
by fast-paced city living around the world. The architectural explosion of
fluid lines found in his paintings are drizzled energetically onto the canvas
and contrasted with blocks of blurred colour that brilliantly capture the
lights dancing off a watery surface – be it a wet Parisian boulevard, a
London pavement, or the River Thames.
Indeed, Kenton expertly captures the movement in a city, seeing his
paintings as a ‘short film clip’ rather than a photographic still. Kenton,
who remains one of Washington Green Fine Art’s top-selling artists nearly
a decade after joining the company, said: “My cityscapes reflect the many
moods of manmade landscapes; I find it exhilarating to express furious
movement, artificial lights and the vibrancy of a busy city centre at night,
as well as the subtler moods of a misty dawn at the same venue."
“Paul captures the essence and personality of the world’s most iconic
cities, painting them as you’ve never seen them before,” added Valerie
Kaye, gallery manager for Brighton’s Castle Fine Art. “His unique loose
style of painting, using drips and bold brush strokes, epitomises the fluid
movement of the arteries of the city. You can almost close your eyes and
hear the commotion around you; the smell and the inane chattering of
people passing you by.”
The exhibition of Paul Kenton’s work will take place at
Castle Fine Art, Brighton, 2 Nile Pavilions, BN1 1HW.

LOCAL CHILDREN SHINE AT THE STARR TRUST CELEBRATION NIGHT
Last month, the Starr Trust held its sixth
‘Celebration Night’, a very special evening
that celebrates the lives and achievements of
the young people that the charity has helped
throughout the year. Almost 200 people came
together at the Sussex County Cricket Ground,
where sponsors, businesses and supporters
had the chance to meet the young people
whose lives have been transformed by their
generosity.
“What a wonderful evening,” said Nicole
Carman, Starr Trust press manager. “The
Boundary Rooms at the Cricket Ground were
buzzing and we were thrilled to see so many
of our supporters there, including our lovely
patron, Robin Cousins, and local businesses
such as the Hilton, Brighton & Hove Buses and
many more, all of whom have helped us raise
an incredible £80,000 so far this year; we’re so
grateful for their continued support.”
During the evening families spoke of how
the Edward Starr Awards had turned their
children’s lives around. Ira Perrier’s mother,
Karen, read out an incredibly moving piece
written by her son about growing up without
a father and how much joy and confidence
basketball had given him. The Starr Trust
has supported Ira financially for the past four
years; he is now a straight-A student and is
currently living his dream and working hard in a
prestigious high school in Florida.
her confidence has grown since receiving her
award - enough to get up and sing in front of
200 people!”
“A highlight of the evening was when two
young champions, Zoe and Jasmine, sang
beautifully for the audience,” said Nicole.
“Jasmine is a talented young opera singer,
