ARTS+ENTERTAINMENT A Christmas that caters for all at Eastbourne’s Royal Hippodrome Theatre Christmas 2016 is set to be the Royal Hippodrome's biggest yet with the worldwide premiere of David Walliams', The First Hippo on the Moon. Adapted from the number one bestselling picture book from authors, David Walliams and Tony Ross, comes this explosively funny space adventure for the whole family. Two big hippos. One enormous dream. Who can make it to the moon first? 3...2...1...blast off! Brought to life on stage by Les Petits, the highly acclaimed theatre company responsible for Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs, this production will be full of colour and spectacle with creative input from David Walliams himself. The show opens on December 13th and runs until January 7th - with tickets from just £6.75, it promises to entertain the whole family, both young and old. At the other extreme – and strictly for over 16s only - the Royal Hippodrome is playing host to Eastbourne's first adult pantomime. For two nights only, running on November 25th and 26th comes Puss & Dick. The Market Theatre Company is out to give the older generation a viable alternative to the family pantomime and this year they will rework (or ruin) the pantomime classic, Dick Whittington, packing it with corny jokes, raunchy plots and blatant sexual innuendo! With a minimum of set, props and costume, the fearless company of three will take this traditional story and distort it almost beyond recognition. Described as ‘quintessentially British. Like a Carry On... film made by a rugby club!’, get ready for an evening of slick, fast-moving, farcical fun and bawdy sexual innuendo (did we mention the innuendo?). Tickets from £17. Tickets for these shows and many more are available from the box office on 01323 80 20 20, or online at www.royalhippodrome.com.
